High Desert Museum

Nestled in a Ponderosa pine forest, the High Desert Museum has been sharing the stories of the Intermountain West since 1982 through wildlife, art, history and cultures. Explore indoor and outdoor exhibits, galleries and interpretive trails that highlight the High Desert’s diverse people, places and wildlife. Explore up to nine changing exhibitions every year, from renowned artists to deep dives into natural history. The High Desert Museum won the 2021 National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the nation’s highest honor for museums.

Newberry National Monument

The Newberry National Volcanic Monument is a spectacular wonder, allowing visitors the unique opportunity to view the Lava Lands of Central Oregon. Newberry National Volcanic National Monument includes more than 54,000 acres of lakes, lava flows, and amazing geologic features in Central Oregon. The highest point within the monument is the summit Paulina Peak (7,985 ft.), showcasing views of the Cascades, Newberry Caldera and across the High Desert. Lava Butte, Lava River Cave, Lava Cast Forest and Newberry Crater are all part of the monument.

Lava Lands Visitor Center

The Lava Lands Visitor Centeris the interpretive hub of Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Friendly rangers will help orient you to the Monument using our 3D topographic map. Visit our state of the art interpretive exhibit on area geologic and cultural history, shop in the Discover Your Forest Bookstore, view a variety of films scheduled daily, walk the Trail of Molten Land and the Trail of the Whispering Pines, travel on the fully accessible 5.5 mile Sun-Lava paved path, picnic under the pines, attend a ranger talk, walk to the top of Lava Butte for a spectacular view of Central Oregon.

Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory

Whether you are an early bird or a night owl, be sure to visit the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory! Located next to Lake Aspen and nestled among eight-acres of pine forest, wetland and meadow habitats, Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory is your gateway to the natural world, distant galaxies and everything in between! Spend the day learning for the team of naturalists about the local wildlife, plants and birds. Spend the evening at the observatory gazing at the stars. The Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory is a wonderful and fun way to learn about Sunriver’s natural and nightly surroundings.

Mt. Bachelor

Mt. Bachelor, the local’s choice for snowy fun, is just a short 30-minute drive from Sunriver. It boasts one of the longest snow seasons in the country along with impressive views, over 450” of annual snowfall, a 360° summit-based terrain of over 4,000 acres and 101 runs. It’s an iconic, skiable volcano that is an essential destination for any winter visit to the area! Mt. Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic and Recreational Center (SHARC)

The SHARC is Sunriver’s premier aquatic and recreation facility, brought to you by the Sunriver Owners Association. The SHARC offers all-season activities including heated indoor aquatics year-round and heated outdoor aquatics during the summer season! SHARC also offers a disc golf course, a winter tubing hill, a basketball court and fantastic events throughout the year. Access to SHARC is free to Sunriver property owners with a current homeowner ID, and those with SROA recreation passes and guests of rental properties enrolled in SROA’s Recreation Plus program. The public is welcome via a daily gate fee.
