Sunriver,
the Pacific Northwest's premier vacation destination, is located in Central
Oregon, approximately 15 miles south of Bend and two miles west of US Highway
97. Bordered on the west by the Deschutes River and surrounded by the Deschutes
National Forest, Sunriver is a planned residential and resort community
consisting of single family homes, condominiums, cabins and cottages, a retail
and commercial
village, and a world class
vacation destination resort
with three 18-hole golf courses.
There
are approximately 4,200 residences and lodging units in Sunriver and about
1,500 residents call Sunriver home on a full-time basis. During the peak
summer season, Sunriver's population can swell to nearly 20,000 vacationers
and visitors on any given weekend.
Although Sunriver is unincorporated, it is self-governed with its own
homeowners association, public
works department and budget. Its paved roads and 37 miles of pathways for
pedestrians and bicycle riders are private, as are its two swimming pools, 26
tennis courts, two parks and other common areas. A special
service district provides fully-staffed police, fire and emergency medical
services.
Set
in a unique environment, Sunriver is blessed with natural attributes rarely
found in other communities. The developers of Sunriver understood the need
to reduce man's intrusion and preserve the beauty and tranquility of the
forest environment. To this end, all structures and landscaping within the
boundaries of Sunriver are in harmony with the natural surroundings. The
Sunriver community is committed to maintaining and enhancing its unique
character in partnership with nature.
