Local Government

Sunriver is an unincorporated, planned community and vacation destination comprised of interrelated villages containing homes, condominiums, recreational facilities, commercial and retail businesses, and a resort complex. It is essentially self-governed, with its own Sunriver Owners Association (SROA), public works department and budget. Its paved roads, pathways, swimming pools, tennis courts, parks and other common areas are maintained by the association for the benefit of all residents and their guests

Property owners share in the cost of maintaining these common areas and services, and of administering SROA. Although paid employees carry out the daily activities of the association, its board of directors, committees and task groups are comprised of property owners who volunteer their time.

Sunriver’s fire prevention and protection, security and law enforcement, and emergency medical and ambulance services are provided by the Sunriver Service District which is funded through an ad valorem tax on property owners.
